Focada em obter recursos para a Associação Amor Por Favor, a bela artista plástica Vanessa Pedote (38) promoveu o leilão O Efeito Beija-Flor. Em museu de SP, foram arrematadas 40 litogravuras do holandês Jaap Snijder e do paulista Marcelo Gimenes, que participaram do evento por videoconferência. A noite foi abrilhantada com o som dos músicos Sérgio Simão e (42) e Eduardo Pedote (42), primo de Vanessa.

The Young Cultural APE programme is an initiative of the Barce Foundation and the Secretary of Education from the State of Sao Paulo (Brazil).

Objective

A cultural exchange program between Brazilian and Dutch high school students. With this exchange we would like to start an International platform to create awareness of each other’s cultures and ways of thinking.

The programme set up

By using Social Media we can share creativity and knowledge between both countries. We will create a cultural topic on our Blog (www.apeprogramme.blogspot.com) for the teachers to discus and set up an Art concept for a select number of students. The art works can be drawings or paintings or multimedia (films, collage or mash ups).

Last night at 8 PM our exhibition was officially opened by the Secretary of Culture (Rosangela Camolese), the Curator (Susete Thame Gutierrez) and the President of the Avistar foundation (Reinaldo Canceliero) at Armazem 14 Engenho Central. This beautiful location dates from the 19th century and it was recently restored and publicly opened for the first time!

We would like to thank Rosangela, Reinaldo, Susete, the wonderful volunteers of Avistar and of course all the staff of Secretaria de Ação Cultural for making this opening happen.

We would also thank our families, friends (especially Fatima Pachane!) and the Press for their positive reactions and support.

Last but not least we would give special thanks to Paul and Luuk for being so helpful and patient with us.

Building the art exhibition "Made in Rotterdam"

Together with the staff of SEMAC (Secretaria Municipal da Açao Cultural) members of Avistar we build up the exhibition space and selected the artworks. Within 5 hours we've transformed the main hall at Armazem 14 (Engenho Central) into a colourful site, ready for the launch tormorrow july 28th.

Charity Diner Avistar

The Avistar staff organised a charity diner in honor of Barce Foundation. Over 60 people where invited to this happening which is very common in Brasil. The guests gave some wonderful reactions previewing the artworks.

In this picture we explained why we donated 75 artworks to Avistar and why we chose the symbolic icons of the city Piracicaba (the Ipe, Engenho Central and the Garça). Creating awareness of the current situation of blind people in Brasil is our main goal.

With the help of local newspapers we can achieve this... soon an update of our PR campagain for Avistar.

Yesterday we've had a meeting with the staff members of Avistart to discus the latest details for the exhibition at Engenho Central in Piracicaba (Sao Paulo).

Avisitar is an organisation for blind or visual disabled people and helps them to cope with there handicap. Because the foundation is completly
depending on gifts and volunteer workers we have organized a big exhibition for fund raising.

Besides helping and educating blind people they are trying to creat awarness of this disability. Many children are kept at home and get no excersise and become obese and get diabetic...

Avistar - great exposition at Engenho Central (Piracicaba - São Paulo)

This is Engenho Central in Piracicaba (SP), a very big sugar factory from the late 19th century. The main building is accompanied by smaller buildings, most of them are restored and once the entire restauration is completed it will be the largest cultural building in Brazil.

We are very proud to present an exhibition in the recently restored building 'Armazem 14a' (Eugenio Nardin). We are very grateful to the Ministry of Culture (SP) for this unique opportunity and her support.

The grand opening with seventy five art pieces we have donated to the Associação Avistar (an organization for the visually disabled) will take place on Wednesday 28th of July.

Next week two of our Brazilian friends are bringing over 70 new artworks from Rotterdam to Brazil for the upcoming exposition in Engenho Central de Piracicaba (Sao Paulo, August 2010). At the exhibition in this recently restaured place its possible to purchase the artworks at the Avistar foundation for visual disabled children and adults.

The beginning of our first Brazilian contact

With the donations and sales of the Barce Foundation artworks we were able to make our first donation to a Brazilian organization for blind children and adults called Avistar. This wonderful organization is founded by different groups of volunteers and doctors. They help blind people socially, psychologicly and teach them how to cope with there disability on a daily bases.

The biggest problem blind people are facing in Brazil is discrimination. Many of them are bound to stay at home from an early age and get no exercise or social expectation. They become obese, diabetic and develop cardiovascular problems and die at a young age.

Avistar needs more publicity because they only have 36 clients; many blind people are ashamed to seek their help. We are planning an exhibition in July this year to raise money and above all to start an awareness campaign and hope to create more social acceptance!
